Ancon Construction Wins Elkhart Chamber's Business of the Year

ELKHART, Ind. - Goshen-based Ancon Construction recently won the title of 2007 Business of the Year from the Greater Elkhart Chamber of Commerce. The announcement was made during a recent Chamber event to celebrate business achievements last year in the Elkhart community.

According to Chamber staff member Stephanie Patka, Business Recognition Council members award businesses this distinction based on merit. All 12 applicants, who were Business of the Month winners from 2007, were interviewed and judged on innovative products and/or services offered, company growth, community involvement and other factors. “The council was impressed with Ancon’s achievements,” Patka said. “They were selected for their outstanding contributions and the excellence with which they have led the Elkhart community.”

Among those attributes are Ancon’s post-construction Building Products Division, which performs maintenance, renovations, repairs and emergency response; workers’ personal pride in the company since first taking steps to becoming employee-owned in 1988; numerous awards received showcasing the quality of their work; and the company’s dedication and loyalty to the Elkhart community.

“We are thrilled to receive the 2007 Business of the Year award,” said Bill Hunt, Ancon president. “It’s always been a priority for us to be an active and contributing neighbor here in Elkhart County. To have an agency like this recognize our efforts and bestow this title on us is a great honor.”

Among the event’s attendees, nearly 250 total, were representatives from 13 businesses who received the Chamber’s Fairbanks Beautification awards for efforts to improve the aesthetic features of their buildings and properties. One of them was George Weston Bakeries, a new facility completed by Ancon in late 2006. Other attendees included event sponsors and the Not-For-Profit of the Year, Bashor Children’s Home.
