GOSHEN, Ind. – Rieth Rohrer Ehret Funeral Home in Goshen held a ribbon-cutting recently for a third chapel, built by Goshen company Ancon Construction. The 3,000-square-foot addition bears features such as lofted ceilings with decorative chandeliers, a sound room with a complete sound system for both pre-recorded and live music, handicapped-accessible restrooms, and a dedicated handicapped parking area with ramps to both sides of the main lobby.
“We simply needed more space,” explained Jerry Ehret, one of the company’s owners. “Our other chapels seat 100 to 140 people, while this chapel seats 200. We’ve had a lot of comments from our patrons saying we’ve needed this for a long time.”
Ancon Construction’s architect Todd Miller designed the addition to match the original structure, which was built in 1868. The classical Italianate style included limestone, brick, and decorative cornices, moldings and columns. Those elements can also be seen on the addition containing the new chapel.
“We’ve been told by many people how seamlessly it all blends together. That’s the most impressive thing about the project,” Ehret said. “Ancon went over and beyond our expectations. They did a terrific job.”
