ANCON Awarded Two ABC Merit Shop Construction Awards

ANCON Awarded Two ABC Merit Shop Construction Awards

Representatives from Ancon Construction recently attended an awards gala in Indianapolis to celebrate some of the best construction projects within the industry for 2015-2016. The Associated Builders and Contractors of Indiana/Kentucky annually recognize outstanding projects built by Merit Shop Contractors.  The recognition builds awareness in our local communities of the quality of work produced by Merit Shop Contractors and their team members.  Furthermore, it represents the quality of the companies represented by the Associated Builders and Contractors of Indiana/Kentucky.    The award recipients are determined based on the project and how the team members excelled in innovation, quality, communication, and safety.  The projects nominated are presented to a panel of judges that represent a cross-section of the construction industry.  Awards of Excellence (first place) and Awards of Honor (second place) are determined by the judges.  ANCON President John Place, Senior Vice President Gary Wetzel, Project Manager Cullen Stanger, and Designer Matthew VanSoest attended the event.

The following are the Ancon projects that were awarded:South Bend Cubs Performance Center ANCON Construction

South Bend Cubs Performance Center

2016 Award of Excellence

Pre-engineered Metal Building Category

Architect: Jones Petrie Rafinski (JPR)

General Contractor: Ancon Construction

The South Bend Cubs Performance Center is a 15,000 sqft pre-engineered building which contains six batting cage bays, team conditioning room, concessions, and an upper viewing lounge which overlooks both the batting cages and the baseball stadium below. The owner of the South Bend Cubs and Partner of the Chicago Cubs placed a million dollar bet that Ancon would complete the project within 5 months, in the dead of winter, and be ready for opening day in early April. The project was completed with one day to spare! The performance center played an important role and was one of the deciding factors of the affiliation agreement between the Chicago Cubs and the South Bend Cubs. This regional destination is simultaneously utilized for training by the minor league and rehabbing of the major league team and is open to community members and area athletes looking to accelerate their individual and team performance. Play ball!

2016 Award of Merit

Commercial Category

Architect: Ancon Construction

General Contractor: Ancon Construction

Taper Lock Credit Union (TLCU) Financial represents the new age of banking design. The 2 story 5,000 sqft building follows the new “dialogue banking” concept where teller lines and bullet proof barriers are replaced with interactive, welcoming transaction pods. Programmatic spaces include a 2 story lobby business center, private consultation offices, staff offices, spacious conference room, and a three stall drive-thru transaction canopy. The building is designed around the idea of a taper lock. TLCU Financial began as a credit union primarily for local industry workers of a nearby factory which manufactured taper lock bearings. We took the idea of a taper lock’s revolving motion and designed the building shell using differing angles which allows the building footprint to rotate on the site.  Construction crews might not have been pleased with the lack of 90 degree angles, but we the unique look of the building helps promote their brand and keeps TLCU top of mind.  ANCON is honored to accept these two awards for excellence in the construction industry.  To learn more about our award winning design & construction team checkout our homepage!

The Ancon team strives to listen and to understand a congregation’s unique ministry.  What is the appropriate solution to the current ministry needs or for the needs of the future?  How will ministry goals shape spatial needs?  Evaluating the project scope, defining priorities, and planning for the future with one purpose – keeping your church on mission.  Ancon’s design staff remains conscious of what issues churches are facing through our extensive research.  It is our hope that by learning best practices in church-worship design, we enable a congregation’s mission, vision, and purpose to strengthen our relationship with God and bring others to Him.

Elevation Facing Grape Road

BW3’s on Grape Road is getting a face lift….No that is not the name of one of their new sauces but rather a complete interior and exterior re-brand.  ANCON Construction has taken on the challenge to completely demo the interior of the building and make major changes to the exterior, rebuild and re-open within a two and a half week window.  Yes, that’s right in, in less than three weeks we will have completely remodeled the interior and exterior of a large national brand restaurant.  It was a big challenge but we were able to coordinate with the local franchisee and by using multiple crews and multiple shifts progress is underway.

New Main Entrance Concept

New Main Entrance Concept

The new concept brings more light to the interior, changes out the bar, opens up the space by removing walls, designer flooring and adds elements of rustic brick on the inside walls.  All new beer dispensing system and lines have been ran as well.  Virtually nothing was left untouched.  We have been recording the project with our GoPro…look for time lapse video coming shortly.  Still need to get your BW fix?  No worries, while the Grape Road location is closed for the remainder of the project the Elkhart, South Bend (Southside) and Goshen locations are all still open.

ETHOS Science Center and Ancon Construction Honing in on Exciting Project

ETHOS Science Center and Ancon Construction Honing in on Exciting Project

Ethos Rendering Final-Regional Cities-ANCON ConstructionProject will include a massive 66,000 square foot renovation overhaul of the former Bayer Healthcare building and a new 35,000 square foot building addition.  Programmatic spaces will include: hands on learning science and technology museum, classroom and learning studios, administrative office suite, science kit warehouse, and Lego-robotics studios.  The programmatic spaces will be centered around a central hub/café/plaza and event room.

“The facility and site will serve as a 3D learning textbook for all!” commented Ancon Designer Matthew VanSoest.  “Architecture and the built environment should benefit, promote, and foster learning.  We are really thinking outside the box on this one!  For example, building users will have visual connections into the mechanical/electrical/data rooms which are normally hidden from view. These and other building systems will provide rich learning opportunities.”

More information about the building project will be announced very soon!
