It’s a grand opening that promises to bring a lot of goodwill to the community. Goodwill Industries and Ancon are thrilled to announce the completion of a 24,500 square foot building campus at Cambridge Plaza in Mishawaka. A new retail center moved into the south anchor space – the former Aldi Store. The remodeled north anchor space includes the Career Center, offices, future tenant/expansion space, and a workroom with new loading dock and drive thru donation drop off. The Career Center space is designed to help anyone who would like to learn more about getting and keeping a job. Debie Coble, Vice President of Work Force Development explains how the career center works, “You don’t need an appointment, you can come in between 9 and 6 anytime. Work on your resume, work on your job search activities, and hopefully better your life through the power of work.” Retail sales allow the career center to offer services for free.
The existing building façade had a complete overhaul with three new distinct entrances/canopies. The modern entrances act as “lanterns” at night as translucent panel walls are lit from behind. The project, which is the 31st project between Goodwill Industries and Ancon, was overseen by Project Manager Doug VonGunten and Field Superintendent Rich Olson. Ancon architect Todd Miller reflects on the project by stating – “The original building was built as two separate but connected structures. The building elements were similar but the main design challenge was to make the two buildings appear as one. The new exterior design elements create visual interest and a new higher end retail identity along Grape Road. They also help tie the two buildings together and create a more cohesive design appearance.”
